The Secretary of State of the USA, Antony Blinken stars in a “lightning” visit – of just 17 hours -, which will have the purpose of ratifying a strategic alliance between the governments of Joseph Biden and Javier Milei.

The La Libertad Avanza government has a symmetrical alignment with the interests of the democratic administration in Latin America. Milei He distanced himself from China, condemned Russia’s war against Ukraine, questioned the dictatorships of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, supported Israel’s offensive in the Strip and is critical of the role that Iran plays in the Middle East.

For this reason, the Oval Office decided to focus on building a close relationship that can place Milei as a reference in the region.

The construction of Biden’s staff involved formidable support in the negotiation with the IMF, Milei’s visit to the West Wing of the White House, the meetings of the Chief of Staff, Nicolás Posse, at the CIA and the General Staff of the Command South, and the tour that the Undersecretary of State for Latin America, Brian Nichols, crowned a few weeks ago.

This geopolitical launching pad, supported by a very high-level agenda offered in Washington, may be ready after the conclave that Milei and Blinken will star today in the Casa Rosada.

What is Antony Blinken’s agenda in Argentina?

Milei receives the American Secretary of State with Posse, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino, the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, and Gerardo Werthein, designated ambassador to the White House.

The United States embassy in Buenos Aires posted an official statement on social networks informing about the work agenda that Blinken and Milei will share during their meeting on the first floor of the Government Headquarters.

“In Buenos Aires, Secretary Blinken will meet with Argentine President Javier Milei to discuss bilateral and global affairsincluding sustainable economic growth, our shared commitment to human rights and democratic governance, critical minerals, and improving trade and the investment for the benefit of both countriesâ€says the official statement.

Around 11 a.m. the audience with Milei and a part of his Cabinet will begin, then there will be a limited press conference, and at 2 p.m., the official United States plane will take off for Washington.

In principle, Blinken would not make a single comment about Milei’s political decision to participate in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), where a strong campaign speech by Donald Trump, probable presidential candidate of the Republican Party, is expected. The president will leave on Thursday night for the northern country.
