More than two years following the official appearance of the virus, mystery still reigns over the origins of Covid-19. Does it come from pangolins, as initially indicated, from another animal species, or from a laboratory leak? Despite the investigations of scientists in Wuhan (China), the cradle of the pandemic, there is still no certainty. But work carried out by the Pasteur Institute of Laos makes it possible to better understand the occurrence of the epidemic.
According to the researchers, bats might be the source of the spread of the virus to humans. To reach this conclusion, the scientists analyzed the samples collected from different species of bats in northern Laos. They detected viruses close to Sars-Cov-2, the scientific name of the virus causing Covid-19, in bats.
