What was this strange luminous phenomenon seen in the night from Saturday to Sunday in the Belgian sky?

Many Belgians had their eyes drawn to a strange phenomenon in the sky, the night from Saturday to Sunday. A line composed of dozens of luminous points was visible to the naked eye.

In reality, this phenomenon is not natural. It is a constellation famous minisatellites launched by the firm of Elon MuskSpace X.

These satellites have been launched regularly since 2019 via a Falcon-9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The last launch dates from this Friday, hence the observation of these satellites placing themselves in orbit last night. The company announced that they were intended to strengthen its Internet access service by increasing its geographical coverage.

According to Starlink, 858 of these craft have already been launched. The company’s objective is to have 12,000 satellites by 2025, and eventually 42,000.
