What will change on WhatsApp in December

The messaging app continues to evolve. Several new features are expected in the coming weeks.

The communities

The feature is supposed to make it easier for the app’s two billion users to navigate between groups. Concretely, it becomes possible to assemble several groups under the same banner. The option notably facilitates the sharing and research of information, since users only have to navigate between their different communities according to their needs. WhatsApp also adds an interesting option for community administrators. Indeed, they are now able to publish messages to all members of the different groups. Already in deployment, the functionality should be accessible to all in the course of the next month.

The reduction of notifications

This month, WhatsApp rolled out an update that allows for expanded groups. From 256 people, the messaging system is now able to accommodate 1024. However, who says more participants says more notifications. Fortunately, Meta has anticipated the blow and is working on automatically muting groups of more than 256 people. The option should arrive in the coming weeks. Note that you will have the option to restore notifications manually.

video without pressure

Finally, WhatsApp’s new photo module is in the testing phase. This allows messaging users to quickly switch from photo mode to video mode. No more question here to keep pressing to start a recording, just select the video option to enjoy it. This also means that you will have the possibility of moving away from your smartphone if you want to put it on a stand.
