After testing in the Windows Insider program, Microsoft is rolling out the major Windows 11 update, soberly titled Windows 11 2022.
We knew that Microsoft was preparing an important update as Windows 11 22H2. Finally, the firm opted for a more sober and easy to remember name: Windows 11 2022. This new version can be downloaded now for free and brings its share of new features for Windows 11.
What’s new in Windows 11 2022
To present its new version of Windows, Microsoft is emphasizing improved performance and above all better security provided in particular by Smart App control, which should make it possible to better verify the authenticity of the applications that one installs on his PC. .
But the new features that most users will remember relate to interface changes. Like Windows 11 Start menu more customizable with folders and new layouts in settings.
This update modifies many small interface elements of Windows 11 to continue the modernization effort undertaken by Microsoft with the launch of the system in 2021. It is a new batch of settings from the control panel which migrates to the Settings application, new icons or new options for touch screens.
Windows 11’s excellent window management gets better with new layout options. A menu now appears at the top of the screen to allow you to define which space to occupy for the selected window. Ergonomic elements that are very practical on a daily basis.
Microsoft has also worked on the consistency of its ecosystem. The game bar has changed its interface when using it with a controller to be easier to use. Players will also be entitled to changes on the DirectX side. Windows 11 2022 notably allows games in windowed mode to benefit from auto HDR, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and very low system latency.
Microsoft is finally making a pass on the AI and accessibility options of its operating system to make it easier to use. Let’s mention the possibility of automatically blurring the background of your camera or shifting your gaze to appear more natural.
Another update in October
As some rumors suggested, Microsoft will also offer lighter updates in the coming months to complete the development of Windows 11 2022. An update is already scheduled for October.
In particular, it will modify the file explorer interface to better present favorites and integration with OneDrive, but also add tab management to the explorer. The Photos application will also receive an important update in October as well as some improvements for the taskbar or the clipboard.
An update to download and install now
Windows 11 2022 now becomes the latest version of the system. It is now the one that will be installed as an update from Windows 10 on a compatible machine. For machines already under Windows 11, the update is to be downloaded from Windows Update.
We asked Microsoft about unsupported machines that may have installed Windows 11 to find out if they will be able to benefit from Windows 11 2022. The firm has not yet answered our questions.
