WhatsApp will also allow you to send videos in HD

After starting, last February, the tests of a new option that will allow to send images in high quality, the WhatsApp is also releasing, still in beta, a feature to send high quality videos.

According to WABetaInfo, the option preserves the dimensions of the video, but still applies slight compression. This means that it will not be possible to upload videos in their original quality, but uploads will be improved with this future option.

As with the high quality photo feature, WhatsApp sets “default quality” as the default option, so users need to select the high quality option manually. When uploading them, the video will be tagged with an “HD” tag, as seen in the image below.

Also according to the information, this feature is not available when sharing videos through Status updates.

Profile icons in groups

O WABetaInfo further reported that the latest beta version of the messenger also improves profile icons in group chats. Specifically, the thumbnails of contacts whose profile pictures are hidden or unavailable will feature the initials of the respective group member’s name, as also shown in the image above.

It’s worth noting that both the feature to send high-quality videos and the improvements to profile icons in groups are only available to some WhatsApp iOS beta users, so a rollout to everyone might happen sometime in the next few weeks (or months).
