The candidate for the country’s leaders agreed to such a request, and promises to do so by Monday. The CEC will make a decision on whether to print it in the election program publication next Tuesday.
In the draft decision, the CEC stated that the program of E. Vaitkaus does not meet the requirements – it contains statements against Lithuania’s membership in NATO, and mistrust of Ukrainians is spread. Also, in the candidate’s program, the authorities are unjustifiably called traitors.
„Current traitors in power; And against this backdrop, the President of Lithuania kisses the flag of Ukraine, allowing Ukrainian citizens to publicly disobey Lithuanian laws; To participate in the activities of the aggressive military bloc NATO, which seeks to destroy Russia, or not“, – CEC quotes the statements in the program of E. Vaitkaus.
The commission asked E. Vaitkaus to eliminate the shortcomings of the program on March 7 and 13, but he did not do so. The candidate had previously indicated that he could not do this because he “does not understand the requirement of the CEC”.
On his part, at the commission meeting, E. Vaitkus denied that the program aimed to disparage Ukrainians, he said that he believes that Lithuania has the right to withdraw from NATO within 12 months.
A part of the CEC members said at the meeting that they believe that E. Vaitkaus’s program contains his opinion, which must not be substantiated by facts, and is not subject to the requirement of truth.
“I suggest printing the program, because the candidate’s right to express his beliefs must be protected, if those beliefs do not exceed the limits of the law,” said CEC member Maksimas Reznikovas.
According to commission member Olga Kilkinova, the statements of E. Vaitkaus’ program are not just opinions, but his specific position.
“The position, in my opinion, should not be in the election program because it is against international obligations,” she said.
The requirements stipulate that the election program must be prepared in compliance with the provisions of the Constitution, the Election Code and other legal acts, as well as the principles of morality, justice, social harmony, fair and honorable elections.
“The text of the election program must not contain material compromising other parties, committees, coalitions or candidates, which requires a counter-opinion in accordance with the requirements of the Election Code,” the requirements state.
The presidential election will be held on May 12.
