Why are many Noz stores closing in France?

In recent weeks, many Noz clearance stores have closed in France. Explanations.

Noz, a chain of French destocking stores (food, textiles, the home world, etc.), is going through a bad patch. Indeed, since the beginning of September, the brand has closed 24 points of sale.

“It did not escape you, the supply of products had decreased: over the past 2 years, the economic context has caused supply difficulties for our suppliers”, explained Noz on his Facebook page. “The purchasing opportunities being therefore fewer, we no longer had the possibility of properly supplying our 325 Noz stores. In order to continue our concept of destocking and upgraded products, we have decided to close 24 underperforming sales”.

Lorient, Mans, Saint-Brieuc, Forbach, Lens, Courrières… In recent weeks, the regional press has regularly echoed new closures. In total, 34 stores have closed since February, according to BFM TV.

“The destocking market is caught in a vice”, explains Olivier Dauvers, retail specialist. “On the one hand, openings have multiplied over the past ten years; and, on the other, manufacturers are organizing themselves a little better every day to limit the use of destocking. Result: even if there has customers at the door, the goods are missing”.

It would seem that Noz is facing increased competition from two other destocking giants, the Dutch Action and the English B&M (ex-Babou).
