According to a study carried out in 2019 on behalf of furniture professionals by Sociovision, a subsidiary of Ifop, 61% of French people want to declutter their homes and make space. The media encourage them, from the show “Detox your house, 7 days to put everything away” broadcast last year by TF1 to the Netflix series Everything in its place with Clea and Joanna or The Art of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. Even fiction praises this a priori forbidding activity: in the American action film LimitlessBradley Cooper takes a pill that increases his brain activity tenfold and his first action is to… tidy up his apartment to think clearly.
