Coffee Drinkers Live Longer: Why You Should Drink More Than One Cup a Day

Good news for coffee lovers: According to a new study, they suffer less from cardiovascular diseases and have a lower risk of death. But just one cup of coffee a day is not enough.

Is coffee healthy? If yes, how much of it? In society, there is a lot of half-knowledge about the caffeinated drink, as a street survey by the health magazine “CheckUp” shows. At the beginning of the year, however, the specialist magazine “European Journal of Preventive Cardiology” published the largest study that has been made on this topic – the results even surprised cardiologists, as “CheckUp” reports.

According to the study, moderate coffee drinkers have a 12 percent lower risk of death and a 17 percent lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. The risk of stroke also decreases with coffee consumption. But that’s not all: According to the neurologist and sleep doctor Pilipp Valko, coffee also has a protective effect on neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. Apparently, that also depends on the dose: those who drink 3-4 cups of coffee over a period of years have a lower risk of developing Parkinson’s than people who only drink one cup.

However, if you drink instant coffee, you would have to switch: Because the healthy effect of this type of coffee could not be proven. (I)
