San Francisco: Last April, Apple announced a system for its users to repair their Apple devices themselves. The program was launched in the US where you can fix your own iPhone in the first instance. Now Apple has included more Apple devices in this plan.
The self-repair program has now been extended to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro notebooks with M1 family chips. The company has announced that it will provide repair manuals and genuine Apple parts and equipment through the Apple Self-Service Repair Store.
Apple now says that the program will soon expand to some countries in Europe. Apple said in a statement on Monday that the program will be extended to additional Mac models later this year.
“The Self-Service Repair Program for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro offers more than a dozen different repair methods for each model. The repair kit includes the display, top case with battery and trackpad,” the iPhone maker said.
Apple devices are now repaired by Apple Authorized Service Providers and Apple Stores. This move is part of Apple’s effort to reduce its complexity and become more user-friendly. The main attraction of this project is that now Mac book repair can also be done in this way.
The scheme also allows customers to return replaced parts to Apple for refurbishing and recycling. By returning the device parts, the user will get credit points.
The company added that “most customers who are inexperienced in repairing electronic devices will still have the opportunity to visit certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts.”
Repairing your phone using parts from the Self-Service Repair Program will void your phone warranty. But hardware problems of the device purchased for repair will be covered under warranty.
