Will the Heat Wave Impact Ligue 1? Officials Push for Postponement of Marseille vs. Brest Match

OM are supposed to receive Brest at the Vélodrome at 5 p.m. on Saturday for the third day of Ligue 1. Faced with the announced heat wave, local elected officials are trying to mobilize to postpone the match to 7 p.m. The LFP had postponed two games on the last day of Ligue 1 due to the heat wave.

Will the heat wave have consequences on the third day of Ligue 1? This is at least the will, for the moment, of certain elected officials in Marseille. As things stand, the Olympique de Marseille match is scheduled for 5 p.m. against Brest this Saturday. Last weekend, the LFP had rescheduled two matches because of the heat: Lyon-Montpellier and Monaco-Strasbourg, scheduled respectively for 5 p.m. on Saturday and 5:05 p.m. on Sunday, had been postponed by two hours.

The mayor LR, of the 11th and 12th arrondissement of Marseille, Sylvain Souvestre, wrote a letter to the first deputy of the city, Michèle Rubirola. In the letter, he specifies his desire to shift the schedule of the match between Marseille and Brest for the good, above all, of the public present at the Vélodrome.

“Following up on my call and our discussion just now, I confirm that several parents have contacted me personally regarding the fact that they do not understand that in Marseille, the schedule for the match of the OM this Saturday, August 25 will not be out of place due to the high temperatures and the sun, writes the elected official. As you know, I have many football associations and the OM training center in my sector which generates a lot of enthusiasm and attracts tourists from afar. Some association leaders of football clubs have also called me because they want to bring children from their clubs (bend or ganay) but these stands are 100% exposed to the sun and some of them ‘between them didn’t feel good in the last game between when they arrived upstream, no water, no shade..’

A strong request after the staggered schedule of the match between Lyon and Montpellier

In his letter sent to the first deputy of the city of Marseille, Sylvain Souvestre, mayor of the 11th and 12th arrondissement of the Marseille city, supports his request with the staggered schedule of the match between Lyon and Montpellier last weekend: “I I saw that schedules had been postponed elsewhere in France and I would like, for eminently legitimate reasons of public health with regard to families, that the schedule be delayed at least around 7 p.m. in order to avoid any problem. and with the sun so strong on these stands, we would not understand that this was done elsewhere like last weekend and not here in Marseille. I remain at your entire disposal to discuss and support this request with the league if necessary.”

For the moment, Michèle Rubirola has not sent a response to Sylvain Souvestre’s letter. Regarding the Lyon-Montpellier match on the second day, as for Monaco-Strasbourg, the decision came from the League, in the wake of the alert bulletins from Météo France concerning the heat wave. For the moment, the League has not communicated on possible changes to the schedules of matches in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2.
