William Friedkin, director of “The Exorcist”, died 50 years after the premiere

The American director William Friedkin passed away this Monday at the age of 87 in Los Angeles (California, USA). He was responsible for several famous films, including The Exorcist.

According to the TMZ portal, the death was confirmed by the dean of Chapman University, Stephen Galloway, a friend of the deceased’s wife, the producer Sherry Lansing.

Oscar winner for Contact in France in 1971, his popularity became undisputed in 1973 when he released the mythical horror film.

Just this year marks the 50th anniversary of the premiere of the film that wreaked havoc around the world with the story of the girl possessed by the devil.

Friedkin was born in Chicago on August 29, 1935. He was the only child of a nurse he called not “Mama” but “saint” and a father who got by by hopping from job to job. Both came from Jewish families who had fled the Ukraine during World War II.
