World Women’s Curling Championship: Canada beats Turkey and will be in the playoffs

SANDVIKEN, Sweden — Canada suffered an 11-5 loss to Denmark on Friday in its final game of the preliminary round at the World Women’s Curling Championship, which won’t prevent it from advancing to the playoffs.

Skip Kerri Einarson’s side, who beat Turkey 10-4 earlier in the day, completed the preliminary round with a 7-5 record.

Denmark put the game away with a four-point push in the eighth end. Canada conceded the victory after this end.

Despite the loss, the Canadians are guaranteed a place in the playoffs, by virtue of the USA’s 10-6 loss to South Korea.

“We were going to have a few anxious moments waiting, but we knew there were a lot of scenarios that were going to get us through,” said Shannon Birchard, one of Einarson’s team members.
