Xbox boss reveals Microsoft plans for Call of Duty comeback

Just yesterday, Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced Microsoft would have signed a 10-year contractto bring Activision’s Call of Duty series back to Nintendo’s platforms.

Since then, fans from all over the world have been wondering how exactly this can be imagined. But now Microsoft’s CEO of Gaming gives first insights into the concrete plans to make the CoD games available again on Nintendo’s consoles.

Nintendo: First plans for the return of the Call of Duty series

During an interview with the Washington Post we got a more concrete idea of what the plan to bring Call of Duty back to the Japanese gaming platforms might look like. For example, Spencer revealed that it would be some time before CoD games would make their comeback at Nintendo.

The reason for this is that work on a new platform would only begin once the acquisition of Activision Blizzard had been completed. Once everything is in place, the ultimate goal is for all versions of Call of Duty, including those for Nintendo, to be released simultaneously. Specifically, the Xbox boss explained the following:

“You can imagine that if [der Deal] completed on that date, the development work to make that possible would probably take a little time… Once we got into the rhythm, our plan would be that when [ein Call of Duty-Spiel] out on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, it will also be available on Nintendo at the same time.”

Xbox wants to score with expertise

In the same breath, Spencer was also asked how a series like Call of Duty would run on a Nintendo console. While he concedes that since a Call of Duty title would be different from one like Minecraft, it would take a lot of work, his team at Xbox would have a lot of experience with “multiplatform alignment.”

“Minecraft and Call of Duty are different games, but how to bring games to Nintendo, how to lead a development team that targets multiple platforms, that’s an experience we have,” he asserts confidently. Finally, Spencer also confirmed once again that the intention is Call of Duty will continue to be available on the PlayStation.
