A Violent Encounter at 50 Feet
A routine dive at the Kuda Rah Thila site in the Maldives turned into a physical struggle 50 feet below the surface on October 28, 2026. The altercation, which pitted a Chinese diving instructor against a guide from a rival vessel, has now triggered a formal investigation by national industry authorities.
Escalation Beneath the Surface
Footage circulating online captures the underwater clash between the two parties. Xiao Du, the Chinese instructor diving with a friend, claims the dispute ignited when he was pushed in the crowded site. According to Mr. Du’s account, the situation spiraled after his fins struck another individual. He alleges that his mask and mouthpiece were then targeted during the struggle.
Fleet Confirms Guide Suspension over Incident
The Maldives Legend Fleet, which hosted Mr. Du, confirmed the conflict involved its guests and a guide from the Infinity X. The company has since suspended one of its own dive guides, noting that its team intervened once the confrontation began.
“We acknowledge that serious allegations have subsequently been raised regarding the conduct of our dive professional,” a director from the company said, adding that the incident requires “careful and impartial examination.” The operator confirmed it has submitted all guest accounts to the authorities.
Calls for Official Inquiry
The National Boating Association of the Maldives (NBAM) has formally petitioned the Maldives Police Service and the Ministry of Tourism to launch a thorough investigation. The association labeled the event a “serious matter that requires an impartial and thorough investigation,” urging the public to withhold judgment while the inquiry proceeds.
Post-Dive Confrontations
The tension did not end at the surface. Video recorded on a boat shows Mr. Du confronting individuals from the Infinity X shortly after the dive. During the exchange, he alleged that three people were involved in the underwater confrontation, characterizing the entire episode as dangerous.
The Maldives Legend Fleet stated it will provide no further commentary on the specific details while the matter remains in the hands of government bodies.
