Chinese IT company Xiaomi has obtained a patent for traffic light identification technology for autonomous vehicles, Chinese media reported.

The patent obtained by Xiaomi uses the car’s sensors and cameras to collect multi-frame lighting state images, determine the time sequence of traffic lights, and analyze the driving state of the vehicle in front. This can significantly improve the accuracy and safety of autonomous driving systems, Xiaomi emphasized.

In July, a Xiaomi self-driving test car with a LiDAR sensor installed on the vehicle roof was caught. The lidar sensor is a core part corresponding to the eyes of the autonomous driving system and plays a role in recognizing accurate distance and spatial information.

Xiaomi’s electric vehicle business is headed by CEO Lei Jun. It is under development with the goal of launching the first mass-produced electric vehicle in the first half of 2024.
