At a time when SYRIZA is in pre-election pace, Stefanos Kasselakis assures that he will stay both in Greece and in the 1,000% party and that he will become prime minister.
Stefanos Kasselakis gave an interview to the newspaper “Ta Nea” and referred both to the developments that occurred in SYRIZA in the last 24 hours, as well as to his personal ambitions.
“Yes, I will become prime minister” said Stefanos Kasselakis and clarified that “he will stay both in Greece and in the 1,000% party” after being elected president in the new round of internal party elections. There is nothing anyone can do, apart from the very base of the party, to make me leave.”
Stefanos Kasselakis pointed out that “obviously I have made mistakes, but I did not find a bed made in SYRIZA” adding: “I want the big upheaval to happen. I am doing something that has never been done before in the country: Instead of me deciding the ballot, I say to the members and friends of the party “you decide who you want to be the progressive people who will represent the party”. For those who think my decisions are arbitrary, the opposite is true. I am completely moderate as party president.”
He also defends his policy as president of SYRIZA-PS, saying: “I did not expel anyone from SYRIZA. They decided to leave from the first day he was elected president. But who are they? They are some cadres who were used to old party structures. The last congress changed the party to give emphasis and voice to its base. The first evidence of this voice is my election. And we will continue on this path. I dedicated half my time to members who had different motivations than the success of the party, he said while adding that I ran with Alexis up and down when others had abandoned him,” he adds.
When asked if the goal is first place, the president of SYRIZA noted. “Yes. The big twist is this. The bar is so low, that the first place for us will be to make a surprise above the bar. If we do a turnaround in expectations, the path to becoming a government is clear.”
He was asked if he will lead SYRIZA in the national elections as well. “That’s my role. If I had been elected only for the European elections, they would have told me before I stepped down as party president”, were his words.
