Yes, there will soon be more speed cameras in Wallonia: “We are catching up”

Ingrid Godart is the new public prosecutor of Mons, one of the five highest magistrates in the country. She is the guest of RTL info Signatures on March 8 and spoke about the measures put in place for road safety, which is one of her skills at the College of Attorneys General.

It’s a fact: there are fewer speed cameras in Wallonia than in Flanders, while Wallonia has twice as many road deaths. Ingrid Godart, the new public prosecutor of Mons, is also competent in road safety at the college of public prosecutors. She recognizes “an objectified delay in the number of radars installed in Wallonia compared to Flanders”.

But this reality recedes: “Wallonia is gradually but seriously catching up.” Understand: yes, there will soon be more speed cameras on Walloon roads… But not right away. For the Attorney General of Mons it is important “to observe as the number of violations noted and the number of disputes and appeals that will be brought”. “To be effective, you have to do things gradually”she believes.

End of tolerance margins

This decision follows another taken recently: the cessation of tolerances in terms of speed: “Tolerance margins have been removed in 2022 on the road”recalls Ingrid Godart.
