You can now send messages to yourself on WhatsApp

It seems that Mark Zuckerberg does not want to lose a single inch in consolidating WhatsApp as the main communication tooland in a few weeks we have witnessed various announcements on the platform, such as being able to Go shopping without leaving the tool.

This hive of news does not end and the last one we have known —once again, through a beta and WABetainfo— is that the popular messaging application works on a function that may surprise you, at first, but can be really useful: send messages to yourself.

What use can writing a message to oneself have? The answer will be given to you by the numerous users who already do it: as a reminder or message manager. The idea is simple: write down or forward everything that you want to be reviewed later in a kind of inbox, but only for us.

To date, those who already operated in this way on the platform, what they did was create fictitious groups in which they were alone, but this was still a poorly resolved shortcut, since to do so, it was necessary to have a “head”. Turkish” offered as a member of the temporary group (WhatsApp only allows groups of a minimum of three users to be created).

Cross-platform communication

Although we do not know if this new function serves as a self-reminder (although it looks like it will), what is known is that WhatsApp wants it to also serve as a means of cross-communication between the different platforms of the application.

That is: you can send a message to this private chat from an iPhone, you will receive it synchronously on your computer or Android mobile, if you have one. And if you’re thinking that, finally, WhatsApp allows activation on multiple phones, the answer is no: it’s still entrenched in its policy, one phone, one account.

However, it is suspected that this will come sooner rather than later and you will finally be able to have WhatsApp simultaneously on two mobiles. But back to this new function… What can be done with it? We give you some ideas:

  • You can send voice notes to yourself: “Remember to buy milk”

  • Send the location of the parked car

  • Forward conversations from other chats that we want to review or with important information…

As you can see, the possibilities are many and I am sure that this new tool will be well received by the market. At the moment, it is only available for beta users on Desktop, although it will soon be extended to other platforms.
