Twenty-four members of a Zambian church died in a traffic accident on Saturday, police said. Their bus collided with a truck in the south of the country.
The bus was traveling between Chongwe district and Siavonga district to go to a religious service. The vehicle was carrying 35 passengers in total. Twelve people, including the driver, were seriously injured in the accident.
Police spokesman Danny Mwale said in a statement that “those who died have… been identified as 23 women and one man, while the injured are eight men and four women.”
Fatal road accidents are common in Zambia due to poor road quality and dangerous driving behavior.
