City councilor Wiederkehr cannot rule out subsidy abuse during question time – the city’s control system must be put on a new footing

Vienna (OTS) “More than 200 Minibambini kindergarten children are still “missing” and have not been registered in either a municipal or private kindergarten in the past six weeks. In today’s question time of the Vienna City Council, City Councilor Wiederkehr could not rule out that the Minibambini association also misused funds here,” said ÖVP education spokesman Harald Zierfuss after today’s question time in the Vienna City Council. According to statements by the city council, the judiciary would also investigate in this direction. It can therefore be assumed that among the approximately 200 Minibambini children there are also so-called “fake children” who have not really claimed a place in kindergarten in the past, but for whom the Minibambini association has nevertheless made use of or misused subsidies from the city has.

“This once again confirms the control failure of MA 10 and MA 11. Apparently, the current system of monthly proof of performance is not abuse-proof. There is also the question of how many so-called “fake kindergarten children” there are in the city’s kindergartens. After all, the NEOS control failure in Vienna is systematic, and Minibambini is probably just the tip of the iceberg,” says Zierfuss. The Viennese People’s Party has therefore also commissioned the City Audit Office to examine other kindergarten associations and to subject the control performance of MA 10 to a comprehensive examination. The city government still refuses to subject MA 10 to an internal audit. “In any case, it’s clear that the city’s control system has to be put on a completely new footing,” Zierfuss concludes.
