Computer malfunction’ US temporarily suspends flights… delays 20,000 flights

Domestic flights across the United States were temporarily suspended due to computer system malfunctions.

Whether it was a cyber attack has yet to be confirmed, but US President Biden ordered a comprehensive investigation into the cause.

On the 11th local time, the window of Newark Airport in New Jersey, USA, was bombarded with complaints from passengers from early morning.

This is because domestic flights have been completely suspended.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an order to suspend all domestic flights until 9:00 am on the same day, and gradually resumed operations from around 8:50 am.

It was because of a malfunction of the FAA’s computer information system ‘Notam’.

Notam is a system that provides information that pilots must grasp before taking off.

About 20,000 flights across the United States were delayed as a result of this incident, and 1,840 international flights arriving in the United States from Paris and London were also affected.

US President Biden instructed the Minister of Transportation to immediately identify and report the cause.

There is still no evidence that this incident was due to a cyber attack.

However, if cyberattacks are the cause and the culprits are confirmed to be Russia, China, or North Korea, the ripple effect is not expected to be insignificant.
