Brooke Sumpter is rewriting the playbook for modern toy and apparel collaborations. At just 11 years old, the founder of Brooke LauRen Children’s Brand has made history as the first child to design and showcase an American Girl doll collection. Teaming up with Harlem’s Fashion Row and Mattel, the young prodigy has officially launched the American Girl x Harlem’s Fashion Row Cherry Blossom Couture Collection, a milestone debut bringing high-fashion vision down to an 18-inch scale.
From Early Stitches to Historic Toy Industry Collaborations
Long before earning her place on major retail shelves, Sumpter was busy learning the fundamentals of design. The young designer first picked up sewing at just four years old. By age six, she was already catching the eye of industry veterans like Brandice Daniel, the founder and CEO of Harlem’s Fashion Row and ICON360.
That creative journey has now materialized into a full-scale retail line that bridges the gap between adult couture sensibilities and beloved childhood collectibles.
Inside the Cherry Blossom Couture Lineup
The newly launched collection features four distinct outfits built specifically to fit 18-inch American Girl dolls, alongside matching apparel designed for children. The line showcases Sumpter’s signature aesthetic, heavily featuring oversized bows, denim, and intricate cherry blossom embroidery.

The centerpiece items include the Cherry Blossom Couture Bow Shirt & Jean Skirt, which pairs a white puff-sleeved shirt featuring an oversized pink satin bow and a matching embroidered denim skirt. Meanwhile, the Cherry Blossom Couture 2-in-1 Ruffle Dress & Jacket offers a blue knit dress layered with gradient pink and blue mesh, accompanied by a varsity jacket and denim booties. Rounding out the doll assortment are the Embroidered Jean Set—complete with a double-breasted jacket and flared jeans—and the Buttoned-Up Bows Top & Skirt combination.
Crucially, the collaboration extends beyond doll accessories. The collection includes a human-sized Cherry Blossom Couture Ruffle Dress for kids, allowing young fans to match their favorite dolls stitch for stitch.
Championing the Next Generation of Creative Talent
Pamela Velarde, Vice President and Head of American Girl at Mattel, emphasized the milestone significance of the launch during its debut rollout.
For Sumpter, the partnership is a living testament to what happens when early childhood talent meets institutional backing. The collection is currently available for purchase online and at American Girl retail stores. As retail spaces increasingly look to authentic storytelling and fresh design perspectives, Sumpter’s debut proves that creative genius has no age requirement.
