A 48-year-old man is sent to prison by decision of the Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki and abused a young girl while she was getting on the city bus.
The man was also found guilty in the second degree of sexual indecency and indecency committed in public and the court sentenced him to 11 months in prison, without parole. After the court’s decision, the accused, who did not appear to apologize, is expected to be arrested.
The incident occurred in the early hours of July 16, 2020, in the center of Thessaloniki, when the 22-year-old (then) girl went to board the city bus of line “10” from the Kamara stop. Then, as she testified in court, the accused put his hands under her skirt, tamed her and tried to touch her genitals.
“He was behind me when I was getting on the bus. I reacted instinctively, started shouting and immediately went to the driver and asked him to close the doors. He replied that he has no such right and I called “100”. While I was talking to them on the phone, I saw two police officers from the DIAS team at a stop. I immediately got off the bus and showed them the man. He also came down and was cursing me, saying I was crazy,” testified the young lady.
The victim told the judges that she has no doubt that the accused is the man who put his hands under the clothes he was wearing. She pointed out that all this time the 48-year-old has been walking around freely, with the result that she often sees him in front of her and on the bus. “Every time I see him I tremble,” she said.
“I have seen many photos of him on social networks that show him as a man who has done the same to other girls who have made similar complaints,” he noted.
A witness also testified in court – a police officer who confirmed that the accused has been arrested again for the same crimes, he has a “file” at ELAS and has served a prison sentence for corresponding acts.
It is noted that the defendant was found guilty at first instance and sentenced to 11 months in prison, but he appealed the decision and was released.
