A ‘Day of Rage’ will paralyze the Lebanese regions tomorrow… What does Tleis say to An-Nahar about the scenario of politicization, chaos and riots?

The unions and unions of the road transport sector in Lebanon, along with some labor sectors, are preparing until late this night for the “Day of Syndicate Rage” tomorrow, which will start from the early hours of the morning until the end of the day.

A new Thursday and a new move, but in the same context as the previous moves of the federations, which have not prompted those concerned to date to implement the agreement with them regarding incentives and aid.

The action map warns that tomorrow will paralyze movement in all Lebanese regions, amid fears of a wave of sabotage and chaos. In this context, the head of the Land Transport Union, Bassam Tlais, confirmed, in an interview with An-Nahar, that “the security services have all the data, and a contact took place between me and the Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi, in which I informed him that the security of gatherings and points is the responsibility of the security services, not the unions.”

He stressed that “the land transport sector cannot be a cause of any sabotage or breach of security, and this matter is rejected because we are not advocates of chaos. Tomorrow, the moves will include all workers and drivers of buses, vans, taxis, tankers and trucks.”

Regarding the participation of other sectors in the movement, Tlais pointed out that “many sectors have informed us of their solidarity with the movement and their participation as well, including the oil companies, which contacted me and informed me of their decision to close and not deliver fuel, but I wished that things would be conducted at night, out of compassion for humanitarian cases.”

And about the extent of the seriousness of the move in bringing about any change in the level of the unions’ demands, he indicated that “the land transport sector, like other sectors, has its duty, role and responsibility to express and raise the voice within the regular and legal frameworks, and we have no demands now. We want to implement the agreement that was signed between us and the government.” .

Tlais added, “We made two moves on December 9 and 16 of last year, but unfortunately we did not find a listening ear. The government did not implement its promise, and what is required today is the implementation of the agreement,” revealing that “during the last meeting that took place in the government palace, Prime Minister Najib informed us Mikati said that the agreement could pass an exceptional decree, and I explicitly asked him before all concerned ministers to be frank with us in the event that the agreement cannot be implemented to search for another solution formula and stop wasting time without offering us a commitment, so why do they invoke the issue of the cabinet meeting today.”

Tlais called on all those who pass judgment on the failure of tomorrow’s movement and ask about the outcome, to “go to the government with this question, because the outcome is in its hands and the answer is with it.”

Tlais also denounced, through “Al-Nahar”, all what he called “malicious rumors and shameful words against unions”, considering that “accusing workers and unionists of being a political tool to implement certain agendas and create chaos in the street is insulting speech against union work, as the sector is coherent and united and includes all The segments of Lebanese society, with its sects, regions, and forces.
