New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn faces mounting pressure following a 28-25 defeat to the previously winless Miami Dolphins on October 25, 2026. The loss drops the Jets to 2–5 on the season and extends Glenn’s divisional record to 0–8, casting doubt on his future after less than two seasons at the helm.
The defeat followed a familiar script for New York’s defense, a unit that Glenn personally coordinates. Miami capitalized on the early mismatch by engineering two long touchdown drives spanning 14 and 15 plays in the first half alone. Those sustained possessions staked the Dolphins out to a 21-7 halftime lead.
Safety Dane Belton pointed directly to the early defensive lapses after the final whistle. We want definitivly better to start a game, especially when you put the defense on the field first,
Belton said, acknowledging the team expected a different outcome.
Glenn did not shy away from shouldering the blame for the slow start. When it comes to this game, I am very disappointed. First and foremost in myself,
Glenn stated.
Despite the early deficit, New York mounted a second-half rally. The defense tightened up, and the offense found traction, allowing the Jets to narrow the gap to 25-28 with just 3 minutes and 24 seconds remaining in regulation. Yet, when the game hung in the balance, the defense failed to get Miami off the field. Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis converted a fourth-and-one play through the middle of the line to seal the win.

Offensive execution also drew scrutiny, specifically regarding star wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Tasked alongside offensive coordinator Frank Reich with getting Wilson involved early, the coaching staff did not register Wilson’s first official target until more than four minutes into the third quarter. Wilson finished the afternoon with three targets, two receptions, and 26 yards.
Glenn shouldered the responsibility for Wilson’s quiet stat line. With a player of his caliber, we have to do everything to get him the ball,
Glenn said. I take it on my shoulders that he didn’t get the targets he needs.
Wilson downplayed the individual usage after the game. It’s okay. I’m just disappointed about the outcome of the game. Things like that happen,
Wilson remarked.
These results highlight a difficult tenure for Glenn, who played cornerback for the Jets during his own NFL career. Across 24 games as head coach, Glenn holds an overall record of 5–19. The franchise itself remains mired in a 15-year playoff drought, the longest active postseason absence in the NFL, putting the team on a trajectory toward a 16th year without postseason football.

Buhrufe rained down from the home crowd as the clock ran out on the Jets. Glenn maintains that the team retains the proper internal trajectory despite the exterior noise. I know what our record looks like,
Glenn said. But I also know what I think of these players and how these players play.
The Jets return home next week to face the Las Vegas Raiders. Glenn acknowledged that the standard must rise immediately. We need to play better and our fans deserve better,
Glenn said. And that starts with me.
