A dead one! Explosion while grilling on the balcony
The balcony is completely charred, a melted flower box gives an idea of the temperature when the gas exploded: a grill exploded here! The man in front of the device: dead.
It was 1.40 a.m. on Friday night when the fire brigade in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz (Bavaria) was called to an apartment building.

A resident told BILD am SONNTAG: “I woke up from an explosion. The windows shook, the walls vibrated. I ran out through the smoky stairwell!”
A first responder from the house across the street: “I heard the hiss of a gas cylinder, ran over and tried to ring everyone up.”
In the apartment that was on fire, a woman opened the door for him and called for her partner: “She said he was in a wheelchair. But the apartment was filled with smoke. I couldn’t get to him.” Only a firefighter manages to get the man out of the apartment.
Head of Operations Hannes Raithel (37): “The patient was taken to the Nuremberg Clinic by ambulance.” But the injuries are so severe that he does not survive. Seven other people are injured.
Two police officers secure evidence: a gas bottle and a stove
According to BILD am SONNTAG information, the dead man is Lothar M., who, according to neighbors, often cooked late at night on the balcony.
A police spokesman: “According to the current state of investigation, there was a deflagration on the balcony while preparing food on a gas grill.” Accordingly, both an operating error and a technical problem could have triggered the disaster.
