Al-Olayawi: We are under great pressure from some merchants

“The Ministry of Agriculture is under great pressure from some traders and monopolists who are always trying to put the ministry’s compass in their favor by closing the market in order to raise prices,” Al-Alaywi said in an interview with Alanna program broadcast by Alsumaria satellite channel.

He added, “We follow the agricultural calendar in the ministry, and there are price moderation committees that monitor the prices of agricultural products.”

Al-Olayawi pointed out that “the Ministry of Agriculture is a technical ministry and far from politics, and we are developing the necessary plans to provide the agricultural needs of citizens, and all countries are looking for their interest and good relations with neighboring countries to secure exchange through memorandums of understanding for partnership with these countries to trade agricultural products in light of climate change.”

He pointed out that “livestock in Iraq suffers from major problems, and the most important problems are the scarcity of water and the high prices of fodder, and the provision of vaccines for animals.”

Al-Olayawi stressed that “the project of planting one million palm trees has been initiated and 250,000 trees have been planted. We are continuing with this project, and there are requests from many parties to provide them with palm, olive and citrus trees to increase green spaces and reduce climate impact.”
