Ekaterinburg skier Alexander Churin was absolutely healthy before the marathon and was allowed to compete with a medical certificate. Chairman of the ProBike club Pavel Ibatullin told URA.RU about this, commenting on the death of a comrade during the race in Kurgan.
“Alexander underwent a medical examination by a sports doctor in January, this certificate is valid for six months. Everything was fine, he never complained about his health. Sasha was very active, looked younger than his age,” Ibatullin said about his 61-year-old comrade.
He said that Churin died right on the track, far from the finish line, where the ambulance was on duty, so there was almost no chance of saving him. The doctors arrived in time and tried to resuscitate the athlete, but were powerless. The exact cause of his death will be determined by a forensic examination. The skier is survived by his wife and two children.
