In 2014, 18-year-old Liu Dawei went to work alone in Shenzhen. Once he came into contact with the way to buy imitation guns. He happily got in touch with the other party and told his father about it. Liu Xingzhong, who was doing farm work at home, also received a call from the police and hurried home for investigation.
The court held that the imitation gun Liu Dawei bought and smuggled without permission was no less effective than the real gun, and was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance. After hearing the verdict, Liu Nan couldn’t believe it. He yelled heartbreakingly in court, “Please shoot me with the gun I bought. If you can kill me, I will plead guilty!” Liu Dawei’s parents were also very surprised, thinking that The verdict was too heavy for an 18-year-old.
In the end, Liu Dawei’s parents learned that according to the national law, as long as the number exceeds 10, they will be considered as a crime of smuggling weapons. In 2018, the Supreme Court and the Supreme Procuratorate jointly announced the approval on the sentencing of guns. Liu Dawei’s case was reopened and the life sentence was changed to 7 years and 3 months.
