The European Mediterranean Seismological Center said that an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale shook southern Iran today, Wednesday, and was felt by residents in the Emirates.

Iranian television stated that the authorities hastily sent rescue teams to the quake-shattered area, saying that there were no deaths or injuries.

The center added that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km, approximately 88 km northwest of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE.
