Francisca Borocuara, an indigenous woman from the Emberá community, died this Tuesday at the Comprehensive Protection Unit (UPI) in Florida.where dozens of indigenous people have agreed to be transferred voluntarily to continue with their processes of return to their territories.
As one of the community leaders confirmed to this newspaper, the deceased woman was 56 years old and came ill “from the territory” His health condition, he indicated, would have been aggravated by the conditions in which he lived at the UPI. However, the authorities will confirm the exact causes of his death.

The District Secretary of Health referred to the events that occurred before the death of the indigenous woman.
According to the entity’s statement, this Monday, February 14, at 2:52 pm, a team from the Central East Subnet had determined, in a care in Florida, that the woman presented health risks. Although a first assessment was made by ambulance and it was indicated that it was necessary to transfer her to a health center, the woman would have refused.
“Subsequently, the medical team requested the medicalized ambulance service and
after performing the assessment, again the patient refuses to be transferred to
a hospital, so the professionals tell you what the warning signs are
that you should take into account, as well as the importance of going to medical attention.
The indigenous woman states that of her own free will she does not want to be transferred by
the medicalized ambulance and also refused to be attended by professionals
of health in the place”, indicated the Secretariat.
