Anchois Gas Project: Environmental Impact Study Approval Achieved After 12-Month Process

This process of approving the environmental impact study lasted 12 months, the company said in a press release. “This was achieved through onshore and offshore environmental and social due diligence investigations, an open and transparent stakeholder engagement program organized in collaboration with relevant parties and an extensive public inquiry process to four local provinces.” the company said.

According to the same source, the final report defines the required planning, mitigation and monitoring measures to be followed during construction and production. Chariot specifies that the environmental impact study incorporates the recommendations of the National Environment Committee, adding that it is valid for five years and covers all aspects of the development, including future wells and offshore infrastructure, the central installation onshore processing and the connection with the Maghreb Europe gas pipeline.

“Obtaining approval for this environmental impact study is a major milestone for the Anchois project and represents the culmination of the time and teamwork devoted to this critical process,” said Pierre Raillard, head of Gas activity and Morocco Director at Chariot.

Remember that Chariot concluded, on December 12, 2022, an agreement in principles with the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), around the long-term sale of gas from the Anchois gas project. This involves the sale to the Board of a quantity of 1.69 million cubic meters of gas per day (60 mmscf, or 60 million cubic feet), for at least 10 years. This gas will be transported via the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline (GME).

Furthermore, last May, Chariot signed an agreement with Vivo Energy providing for the establishment of a long-term gas sales contract for part of the future gas production of the Anchois project, with the aim of satisfying the gas demand from the Moroccan industrial sector.

The Anchois project is scheduled to start production in 2025, with annual production of approximately 300 million normal cubic meters.
