This Tuesday around 10:10 a.m., the alarm went off. “The test was postponed a few weeks ago following the tragic events in Brussels. » In collaboration with the City of Mons and the police, the evacuation exercise lasted 10 minutes. “Traders are required to evacuate their customers, close their stores and then meet at the various assembly points such as near Mons Expo or Ikea,” specifies Thomas Cornil.

Generally speaking, customers are quite understanding. “We explain to them that this happens once a year and that it only lasts a few minutes. It is very important to test the entire device to be ready if a problem situation arises in the future. We test emergency exits, sound devices, signage, automatic openings, shutters, etc. Several observers were on site to see if everything was going correctly and that was the case,” concludes Thomas Cornil.
