Apple is plotting its next move for its most accessible computer.
The company is preparing to release a second-generation MacBook Neo in the first half of 2027, roughly one year after the initial rollout, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The first-generation model debuted in March 2026 using an A18 Pro chip and eight gigabytes of RAM, arriving as a streamlined alternative to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lineups.
Targeting the Budget Market
Targeting budget-encouraging buyers by utilizing an iPhone-class processor rather than a traditional M-series chip, the original computer launched in the United States at 599 dollars before a price adjustment pushed the baseline cost higher in June. The initial French retail price of 699 euros climbed to 799 euros in June due to broader supply chain pressures affecting RAM and solid-state drives. The Neo should in any case pursue its path alongside the MacBook Air, also scented for an update with the M6 chip at the same period.

Hardware Pressures and Upgrades
Industry watchers anticipate that component inflation could persist into 2027. Apple Intelligence features and advanced macOS tools require more system memory to operate smoothly.
Upgrading to twelve gigabytes of RAM provides necessary headroom for multitasking. This adjustment addresses a core limitation of the first model, which offered no user-upgradeable memory configurations.
New Colors to Distinguish Hardware Generation
Switching from the A18 Pro to the A19 Pro processor brings notable performance gains for local artificial intelligence tasks. MacGeneration noted that aside from the updated chip and expanded memory, current reports suggest few alterations to the external chassis. Apple plans to introduce fresh color options to distinguish the new hardware generation from its predecessor. The current device is available in silver, pink, citrus yellow, and blue.
A Swift Pace of Portable Refinement
Apple continues to refine its portable computer lineup at a swift pace. While high-end machines receive M6 processors and touch-enabled OLED screens, the affordable category relies on smartphone silicon to keep production costs down. Whether the company can absorb component price hikes without altering the retail tag remains undetermined as development moves toward the 2027 launch window.

Recent Product Launches and Lineup Strategy
Apple recently unveiled two new Macs equipped with the M6 chip: the 24-inch iMac and the 14-inch MacBook Pro. Meanwhile, the M6 chip now equips several machines, from the Mac mini to the iMac and the 14-inch MacBook Pro. For comparison, the iPad mini 8 is on sale starting at 759 euros. The Neo remains notably more affordable than all iPhones.
