Apple Unveils Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro Starting at $2,899 in Los Angeles
Apple is expected to unveil its touchscreen MacBook Pro models at the “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles, featuring OLED displays, with a starting price of $2,899 for the 14-inch version discussed in reports. The launch brings significant hardware shifts to the flagship laptop lineup alongside a potential price jump.
OLED Touchscreens and Hardware Redesigns
The new high-end MacBook Pro models introduce two firsts for the Mac product line: OLED display technology and a touchscreen. Touch will be available as a supplementary option alongside the trackpad and keyboard. Apple is adding a sturdier hinge for support so the display won’t move when you tap on the screen. The machines are expected to be lighter than the current model, while they retain the 14-inch and 16-inch form factors.

Apple is getting rid of the notch and will add a Dynamic Island instead. The touchscreen MacBook isn’t going to be some sort of iPad hybrid; it may include a few flourishes, like a magnification effect when you touch the screen or new gesture controls in native apps.
Pricing Shifts and Historical Context
The $2,899 price tag for the new 14-inch version is a $400 jump above the one currently available. A similar $400 jump for the current $2,999 16-inch version would mean a starting price of $3,399 for the 16-inch touchscreen model.
To find a comparable baseline price in Apple’s historical catalog, a 17-inch MacBook Pro in 2006 reached a comparable price point, $2,799. But, that’s without accounting for inflation. It’s also fascinating to note that your 2006 MacBook Pro would have come with a DVD burner.
Chip Allocations Across the Pro and Base Lineups
Rumors suggest the new models will use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips as the models introduced in March. Meanwhile, the 14-inch entry-level MacBook Pro is expected to get an M6 chip to replace the M5 chip it was updated with in October 2025.

Apple’s official press release for the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 highlights performance, powerful on-device AI capabilities, and faster connectivity. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 also introduces Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support, alongside a nano-texture display option that dramatically reduces reflections and glare.
Environmental Milestones and Upcoming Release Timelines
Manufacturing data released by Apple indicates that the new 14-inch MacBook Pro incorporates 45 percent recycled content overall, including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure, 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery, and, in a first for Apple, 100 percent recycled tantalum in multiple capacitors. Production runs utilize 60 percent renewable electricity across the supply chain.
Media hands-on sessions in Los Angeles kicked off alongside simultaneous press releases. If this launch goes like the home product launch, the devices will be available for pre-order starting on October 28, with physical units slated to hit shelves and arrive for customers as early as November 6.
