Apple Schedules October 28 Los Angeles Product Experience
Apple announced plans to host a media product experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, following invitations sent to reporters on Monday, October 19. Marketing chief Greg Joswiak previewed the upcoming presentation on X with the tagline, “Can’t wait to pro and tell next week,” according to reporting by MacRumors. MacRumors reported that the gathering will mirror Apple’s October 13 “Welcome Home” rollout in New York by omitting a traditional livestreamed keynote in favor of press releases published on the Apple Newsroom at the event’s start time, alongside hands-on sessions for invited media.
Touchscreens and OLED Arrive on the MacBook Pro Line
The upcoming product lineup features high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that introduce OLED display technology and touchscreen support to Apple’s notebook computer line for the first time. The new machines will utilize a supplementary touch interface alongside the standard keyboard and trackpad, supported by a reinforced hinge designed to keep the display stable during interaction. MacRumors noted that the physical design will be lighter than current versions while retaining existing dimensions. Apple is reportedly bypassing the M6 Pro and M6 Max generations, equipping these high-end OLED portables with the same M5 Pro and M5 Max silicon found in current models. The traditional display notch will be replaced by a Dynamic Island.
Processor Upgrades for the Entry-Level MacBook Pro and iMac
Alongside the high-end OLED tier, Apple plans to update its entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac with M6 chips, replacing the M5 processors introduced in October 2025. New iMac and entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro models powered by the M6 chip will look like their current versions.
OLED Display Comes to the iPad Mini 8
The eighth-generation iPad mini is slated for a major hardware overhaul, adopting an OLED display—making it the second iPad series to do so after the iPad Pro—alongside a revamped speaker system and a relocated FaceTime camera. Powered by the A20 Pro chip from the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, the updated device also relocates the FaceTime camera from the portrait side to the edge. Waterproofing and OLED are expected to push up the price, so the new model could cost around $200 more than the current $599 model.
Pre-Orders Open October 28, Retail Availability November 6
Pre-orders for the new Mac and iPad models are anticipated to open on October 28, matching the publication of the official press releases at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, with retail availability expected as early as November 6. While Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman previously reported that sessions in Los Angeles could span across October 27 and 28, the official invitations firmly establish October 28 as the launch date. Questions remain regarding whether the iPad mini 8 will retain a standard 60Hz refresh rate or adopt a 120Hz ProMotion upgrade, as pricing and exact specifications will be confirmed when Apple Newsroom updates on launch day.
