or corporal Thunderbolt 4 Pro from Apple, which costs up to R$1,850 in Brazilunderwent a computed tomography made by Lumafield. The study, according to the company, aims to understand what is behind its high cost compared to cheaper options.

According to Lumafield, the construction of the cable is complex, reinforcing its reputation as a premium accessory. It supports 100W of power and 40Gbps of data transfers. Its Printed Circuit Board (PCB) has 9 layers that use all 24 pins for connections.

Comparatively, the line USB-C cable Amazon Basicswhich costs around US$10 (~R$55), can deliver up to 60W and 480Mbps, respectively.

The analysis revealed a notable disparity between this and the Apple cable; the one from Amazon Basics uses 12 pins, 8 of which were omitted to save costs. These differences in specifications, according to Lumafield, explain the price discrepancy between them.

The analysis also identified a disparity in the quality of other USB-C cables. A low-cost cable, valued at US$5 (~R$30), was found without a Printed Circuit Board (PCB), with the connectors connected directly to the wires, demonstrating its inferior quality.

No matter how expensive Apple charges its cable, the final decision on its value still depends on the consumer’s individual needs and priorities. Ultimately, the decision comes down to the balance between quality and cost. To read the study in detail, simply access the company website.
