In an idyllic setting in Gurgl, under the Austrian Tyrolean sun and in perfect snow conditions, Manuel Feller delighted his audience. The Austrian flew through the first round of the slalom, relegating his runner-up Clément Noël to 94 hundredths. With the French skier, stage local Fabio Gstrein is the only skier to have managed to stay within the same second as Feller (3rd at 99 hundredths).

The Swiss will have a card to play on the second route, the start of which is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Starting with Loïc Meillard, who was the best of them and is in 4th place, 1”10 behind the leader, with the podium clearly in his sights. Haut-Valaisan Ramon Zenhausern placed himself a few rows behind his teammate (8th at 1”40), two hundredths ahead of Vaudois Marc Rochat (9th).

Starting off very strong, Daniel Yule made a big mistake in the wall and was relegated to 1”63 (13th place). The skier from La Fouly will have to complete a fiery round to achieve a success in the Austrian resort, which is hosting the World Cup for the first time. After the passage of thirty competitors, the Valaisan Luca Aerni (23rd at 3”06) is provisionally qualified for the second route.

After the cancellation of the inaugural giant in Sölden at the end of October (windstorm), then the two descents in Zermatt/Cervinia last week (wind and snow), the Gurgl slalom is the first men’s event of the 2023-2024 season.
