In the wake of average incomes, Statbel publishes the amounts of unemployment benefits. They amount to 6.787 billion in 2021. During the year 2020, marked by the coronavirus, these allowances experienced a sharp increase, linked to the large number of employees on temporary unemployment. In 2021, this amount decreased, but nevertheless remains high, an increase of 45.1% compared to 2019. In 2021, the total amount collected in Flanders was 3.03 billion, compared to 2.547 billion in Wallonia and 1.209 billion in Brussels.
