AVTOVAZ has begun testing the first prototype units of the promising B+ class crossover, about this reported “Gazeta.Ru” with reference to the director of product programs and projects of AVTOVAZ Oleg Grunenkov.

The company’s top manager told reporters that work on creating a new model is in full swing, but the timing of the start of its production is still unknown.

The design of the upcoming new product has already been developed and is being approved, Grunenkov emphasized. The selection of potential component suppliers is also underway.

The machine will rest on the platform Lada Vesta, will receive an increased wheelbase, a longer and higher body, and increased ground clearance. The car is planned to be produced only in a front-wheel drive version.

The prototype unit carrier is a so-called “mule”, in which the chassis, engine and transmission of a promising model are tested. As a rule, the mule is “covered” with a conventional body from some weight and size analogue. In other words, such working samples do not in any way reflect the appearance of the future production model.

“Physical samples and the final version will appear when the bodies are produced directly in production. As a rule, this is a year before the launch of this car. There we will assemble certain prototypes and pilot series from these bodies. We will carry out all validation and certification cycles on them,” — Gazeta.Ru quotes Grunenkov as saying.
