Drew Koka was once again Salzburg’s most successful thrower.

The BBU Salzburg took advantage of the fall of the Raiders Tirol and took over the lead in the 2nd Bundesliga with an 82:70 win at the Wörthersee Piraten. It wasn’t a sure-fire success. Because Salzburg, who are aiming for promotion, had traveled to Klagenfurt with extremely weak replacements. The team members Thomas Buchegger, Marko Rakic and Raphael Miksch were absent due to illness. Nevertheless, an impressive race to catch up was achieved.

BBU Salzburg defies failures

The Carinthians had previously pulled away from basketball veteran Shawn Ray (29 points in total) in the second quarter. The hosts led 45:34 at the break. But Salzburg turned the game before the final section. Led by top scorer Drew Koka (27 points) and Luka Milovac, who missed the double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds, the BBU was unstoppable. With 27:11 the third quarter clearly went to the guests, who didn’t let anything burn after that and fixed the 13th win of the season. “We can be very proud of our performance today. We have had a very difficult two weeks. The team fought and deserved this important victory,” says BBU coach Christian Ponz.
