Bassil: The cabinet session is unconstitutional, and we will not attend the…

The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Representative Gebran Bassil, considered that “the cabinet session, yesterday, Monday, is unconstitutional, illegal and unconstitutional,” stressing that it is “an execution of the constitution, a fatal blow to the sect, and a stab at a national agreement that took place and was announced in Parliament.”

In a press conference held after the meeting of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc, Bassil said, “Yesterday they announced that they are issuing decrees without the signature of the President of the Republic and the Council of Ministers together, which is entrusted with the president’s powers according to Article 62 of the Constitution.” He stressed, “We will not accept what happened, and the issue will not pass.” And no one deals with us for less than that, and what happened is nothing less than a robbery of the Presidency of the Republic with premeditation and determination.

And he considered that “what happened confirms that what was required of Najib Mikati was not to form a government, and this is what we told everyone when we refused to name it.”

And he stressed that “the powers of the President of the Republic are indivisible, as the powers attached to his person are not exercised by anyone on his behalf, and the powers related to his signature are exercised in his place by all ministers, as happened between 2014 and 2016.”

He pointed out that “a third of the government was not participating yesterday, and the government is incomplete specifications, and some decided to absent a component of the Council of Ministers, and no one can return us to before 2005.”

He added, “He who cares about people’s pain does not allow the issue of the displaced, which began during the days of his previous government… They are with the Lebanese drowning in boats of death while he floats his yacht on their pain.”

And he continued, “Whoever cares about people’s pain, let him approve the Capital Control and reform laws, and let him stop those who stole their money… and let him take care of his city, Tripoli, and the poverty and pain of his family…”.

And he concluded: What happened is a big matter, and we will not attend the House of Representatives if we do not find a great national need that requires this matter, and we will seek more and faster to get out of the issue of the white paper and go for a presidential candidate.
