Categories prohibited from polio vaccination

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, noted that the national vaccination campaign that was launched against polio is scheduled to be implemented in all governorates of the Republic on the specified date, and he indicated that the campaign aims to vaccinate about 16 million children, and the importance of vaccination has been provided for all children in the age group from 1 day to 5 years, as a number of groups that are prohibited from receiving polio vaccination have been excluded, which are as follows.

  • Children older than 5 years of age are not allowed to get vaccinated, even for one day.
  • It is also forbidden to vaccinate children with primary immunodeficiency disease.
  • It is forbidden to vaccinate children with leukemia.
  • It is also prohibited for the category of children who are being treated with immunosuppressive drugs, such as cancer drugs and cortisone.

Cases in which polio vaccination is postponed

The Ministry of Health has indicated that vaccination against polio is being postponed, in some cases, if the child suffers from the following diseases:
