Belarus accuses Ukraine of provocations

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Tuesday accused Ukraine of sending 15,000 soldiers to the border region to build defenses and conduct reconnaissance activities, which he described as “provocations”.
Lukashenko asserts that his country is not a party to the Ukrainian crisis, and that its forces do not participate in it.
Lukashenko said, in statements carried by the official Belta news agency, that the Ukrainian unit that arrived at the border closed roads and set up checkpoints and firing positions.
“In short, it (Ukraine) has not only fortified itself, it has built a wall,” he added.
“Their drones repeatedly violate the border line,” he said. Meanwhile, they say they are worried. There are constant provocations on the border.”
Lukashenko said that his country provides support in the crisis only so that it does not infiltrate its territory, as well as “preventing Belarus from being attacked under the guise of a special military operation from Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.”
“As I said, no one will shoot the Russians from behind from the territory of Belarus,” he stressed.
Belarus’ three western neighbors are part of NATO, which provides arms and intelligence assistance to Ukraine, but says it will not be directly involved in the conflict.
