Police “Reported child abuse case”
▲ Jungwon Police Station, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do. It was confirmed that Jeon Cheong-jo, who had planned to marry former national fencing representative Nam Hyeon-hee but then broke up with her, is also being investigated by the police for allegedly assaulting Nam’s nephew.
Seongnam Jungwon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th that it had booked Mr. Jeon on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse).
Mr. Jeon is accused of hitting Mr. Nam’s nephew, middle school student A, with a golf club several times at Nam’s mother’s house in Jungwon-gu, Seongnam between late August and early last month.
The police are investigating this case after receiving a 112 report from a child protection agency last month, immediately after the incident.
It is not known for what reason Mr. Jeon assaulted Mr. A, and what the extent or number of assaults were.
Seongnam Jungwon Police Station initially stated that there were no incidents related to Mr. Nam other than stalking, but it was later revealed that Mr. Jeon had assaulted Mr. Nam’s nephew.
A police official said, “It is true that a case of child abuse has been reported, but we cannot provide any response other than that.”
