Britney Spears’ ex-husband booked in Bay Area jail

Britney Spears’ ex-husband Jason Alexander, 40, was booked into Napa County’s Department of Corrections on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a $2,000 bracelet from an American Canyon home in 2015, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said.

Alexander faces two felony charges and is set to be arraigned at the Napa County Superior Court on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., Henry Wofford, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, told SFGATE. Bail is set at $20,000.

Alexander was Spears’ first husband. They married in 2004 at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas before the marriage was annulled 55 hours later.

Alexander was brought to Napa on an arrest warrant for two felonies related to the 2015 crime, Wofford said. Alexander allegedly stole the bracelet from a woman he was renting a room from and sold it for $180 at a Vallejo pawnshop.

“There was a woman who had a room for rent and a friend recommended to her that Mr. Alexander would be a good tenant and within the first month of living there, she noticed a $2,000 bracelet was missing,” Wofford said. “At that point, she tried to retrieve it herself.”

When the woman first asked Alexander whether he stole the bracelet, he allegedly denied it. After he moved out, the woman approached him again and he admitted to taking it and offered to pay her back, but he didn’t have the money at that time, Wofford said. The woman went to the pawn shop to get her bracelet back, and that’s when she reached out to law enforcement, he said.

Wofford said Alexander was taken to Napa from Ventura County, where he had been serving a sentence for misdemeanor battery and trespassing convictions related to an incident in June. Alexander broke into Spears’ homewhere her wedding to Sam Asghari, her third husband, was being held, People magazine reported.

“By the time we got involved it was early 2016,” Wofford said. “Once we completed our investigation, the arrest warrant was issued in 2016. He had already left Napa County and we put a warrant out. Once he finished serving his time related to the Britney Spears incident, they contacted us asking, ‘Will you transport him to Napa County?’ We got that call on Friday.”
