“Businessmen do not have to be opposition”: Altagracia Gómez Sierra

Altagracia Gómez Sierra, coordinator of Regional Economic Development of candidate Claudia Sheinbaum, asserted that “the objective of the new project is not to impoverish the rich, it is not to generate division. We believe that reducing inequality will happen when we manage to make the campaign slogan: Shared Prosperity a reality.”

In the “Prosperous and Connected Republic” forum, the member of the presidential candidate’s team stated that there is an opportunity to make the changes that are required. She commented that progress is needed in innovation, technology transfer, incentives, and research, and other topics.

Before leaders of business organizations gathered in a restaurant in the south of Mexico City, Gómez Sierra maintained that “we businessmen generally did it badly, because the way to be an interlocutor is not to be an opponent. Businessmen do not have to be in opposition, beyond personal sympathies that are super valuable. It is worth supporting. But it is up to the entrepreneur to solve problems. That’s why they pay us to generate value.”

The Jalisco businesswoman also indicated that, if there is something that characterizes a businessman, it is being a good salesperson. “And we weren’t able to sell our things. And those who were capable did very well.”

The coordinator of Regional Economic Development of the “Let’s Keep Making History” coalition expressed that “we must definitely improve our narrative. We have to learn to add and I think that this (next) government is ideal for that. Claudia Sheinbaum -she said- she is someone who listens, is super prepared and knows how to work as a team.

At the event where she answered questions from businessmen from several states in the country, Altagracia Gómez pointed out that economic development is also in how we include young people, women, and MSMEs. She added that it is also necessary to work on how to include the states of the south-southeast so that nearshoring reduces the differences or inequalities in the population, and does not increase them.

In an atmosphere of cordiality with the businessmen, he explained that the motto of the campaign “Shared Prosperity” is very fortunate, because: “it leaves no room for doubt what the objective is, which is to improve the macroeconomic indicators of growth, with low rates. of employment, of a heavy weight, etc., etc. And thus they can be translated into better access to economic, social and cultural rights for all.”

Sheinbaum Pardo’s economic advisor was emphatic in pointing out that the objectives, which in a few days will be announced within a plan, are the rights to housing, education, health, mobility, and many more. In that sense, she added, “they are laudable objectives, in some way irrefutable, whether we like the 4T or we don’t like the 4T.”

Likewise, when answering one of the businessmen’s questions, he added that at this moment 70 percent of Foreign Direct Investment is concentrated in seven states, and we have to look at sustainability, how we do it to have a circular economy.

In this sense, Gómez Sierra mentioned that we must work on how we plan so that public works are competitive, and how we enable private works to contribute to the objectives we desire.

For his part, fellow hydro-warm businessman Arturo Ávila, national spokesperson for Claudia Sheinbaum, asserted that with Altagracia Gómez “we are in very good hands,” and the economic axis will have good results.

“The problem is that there is a kind of barrier between businessmen and Morena. A barrier that is built even from statements that do not make any logic, because the truth is that the country is doing well. The indicators are good. It has gone well for all of us,” citing a talk with business leader Ramón Neme who hosted the event.

Finally, Ávila Anaya highlighted that the responsibility of businessmen is to generate value, while that of the government is to generate the conditions for this to happen, and that in this new virtuous circle we raise the quality of life of Mexicans like never before.

More than 70 businessmen attended the breakfast, owners of the most important companies in Mexico, such as Ángel Mieres, Adrián Laris, Fernando García Sada, Hugo Camou, Valentín Campos Ramírez, Luis Maccise, Salvador Arroyo, Adrián Páez Garza, Said Mena and Horacio Polanco, among others.
