Helicopters equipped with night vision systems were called in on Friday evening to rescue 184 people stuck in the cable car cabins, Antalya Mayor Muhittin Bocek commented late yesterday. “Our specialized teams are there. God willing, we will save them all in a short time.”

More than 500 rescuers mobilized

The victims were in the cabin which fell. Seven helicopters and more than 500 rescuers were dispatched to the scene. They first evacuated the injured, then brought down the people trapped between heaven and earth. A long operation, as night fell on the Turkish coast.

This Saturday morning, 128 passengers spread across 16 cabins had been evacuated since the day before, while 43 are still waiting to be rescued, according to the Turkish public disaster management agency. An investigation has been opened to clarify the causes of the accident, announced the Turkish Minister of Justice.
